Hi Friends!
First off, let me just say—if you’ve booked an engagement session, yay! I’m so honored to help capture this sweet season of your love story. Engagement sessions are some of my favorite to photograph. There’s something so sweet and genuine about two people simply being themselves, wrapped up in the joy of what’s to come. Whether you’re camera-shy or totally comfortable in front of the camera, I’ve got you. I thought I'd share a few of my favorite tips to help you feel prepared and confident going into your session!
1. Wear What Makes You Feel Like You
Your outfits should feel natural and true to who you are as a couple. Go for clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident—nothing too tight, too stiff, or too far from your normal style. Neutrals and soft tones photograph beautifully and help keep the focus on your connection. Think flowy dresses, cozy knits, and outfits that move well with you.
2. Pick a Location with Meaning (or views)
I always encourage choosing a location that holds meaning to you—your favorite beach, a quiet park, a charming downtown you love strolling through. If you’re not sure, I’ve got plenty of dreamy Long Island locations I’d be happy to suggest. Whether it’s golden hour by the water or a blooming garden path, we’ll make sure it feels just right.
3. Be Present
This is more than a photo session—it’s a chance to slow down, take a breath, and simply enjoy each other in this season. I’ll guide you through prompts and natural movement to keep things feeling effortless and fun. Don’t worry about posing perfectly—just focus on being together. The best photos come from real moments, not forced smiles.
4. Timing
The golden hour (that soft, dreamy light right after sunrise or before sunset) makes everything feel more magical and is my favorite time to shoot. If you're up for an early morning or evening shoot, the lighting will work so beautifully in your favor. We’ll plan the best timing based on your location and the vibe you're going for!
5. Trust the Process
My job is to capture the essence of your love and the in-between moments that make your story unique. So breathe easy, trust me, and let’s create something beautiful together. I promise—you’ll leave your session feeling even more in love than when you arrived.
Bonus tips!
- Be on Time: I always recommend planning to arrive at least 5–10 minutes before our session start time. This gives you a few extra minutes to find parking, walk to the location, and settle in without feeling rushed. Especially if your session is scheduled around golden our or sunset, every minute counts. Once the sun dips below the horizon, the natural light fades fast—so being on time helps us make the most of every magical moment.
- Get your nails done: We’ll be taking close-up shots of your hands (and that ring) and those little details really show up. And I mean both of you! Make sure all hands are looking clean, polished, and photo-ready. It’s a small thing that makes a big difference in your final gallery.
- Clean the Ring: It doesn't hurt to make sure your ring is looking sparkly as ever!!
I’m so excited to document this special season of your lives.
If you have any questions at all (from outfit choices to location ideas to what to do with your hands), I’m just a message away. Let’s make this experience relaxed, joyful, and so very you.
Kindly,
Jenna Marie
